The easiest pick-me-up
Nov 24, 2022My secret weapon on project teams is thank you notes.
Short, simple and specific.
I write them on Monday morning as a great way to start the week.
Usually delivered via email, but occasionally a handwritten personal card for extra impact.
I prompt project leaders to write them too.
As an introvert, a thoughtful, well-timed thank you does more to motivate me than any public recognition ever could. (Know your audience!)
Writing a thank you is the easiest pick-me-up. For others. For me. ❤️
If you want to design change that's positive, fun and rewarding, making gratitude part of your team culture goes a long way! To make it a habit, times of the week that work well:
- First thing Monday morning (it starts the week on a positive note)
- First thing Friday morning (it provides timely recognition for behaviors you want to encourage that happened in that week)
By focusing on how YOU feel after you write each note, you'll create stickiness for repeating the habit. When we feel good, we want to do more of that behavior. Gratitude fuels the giver and the receiver.
